Abrasion Resistance Test (Large Cables)

Abrasion test Equipment is designed to meet the requirements of the relevant specification to evaluate the abrasion resistance of the wire/cable under test. Vertical force is applied on the cable by specified test weights depending upon the overall diameter of cable.

Lay the sample of cable straight and horizontal on the firm base. In the middle part of the sample, place a length of low carbon steel (mild steel) angle horizontally, at right angles to the cable with its angle edge resting on the cable and with its arm symmetrical about the vertical plane.

Vertically load the steel angle above the point of contact to give a force in accordance to table shown above.

The steel angle is horizontally dragged along the cable for a distance not less than 600mm at a speed of between 150mm/s and 300mm/s. The direction is reversible such that the end of each pass gives 50 passes, 25 in each direction over the 600mm test path.

  • Angular Wedge Assembly as specified in the standard.
  • Counter Meter to measure number of passes
  • Digital Timer
  • Set of weights up to 550 N
